Beauty Balm Studio in Los Angeles

Recently had the chance to visit BeautyBalm Studio to have my makeup done complimentary. I never pass up the chance to be pampered while picking up on new make up tricks. Hell yaaaassss!

BeautyBalm Studio is all about glam! The team behind this studio are veterans in the business. A lot of heart was put into the design with natural light, beautiful mirrors and offers of champagne - you'll never want to leave.  In addition to providing make up application, this studio doubles as a facial spa, with certified astheticians to keep your skin glowing

For my makeup application I choose a natural look and was taught about light contouring for daytime. The brands used for my look were - Becca, Kevyn Aucoin, Caudalie and Brett Freedman - the top shelf of makeup. The best part of the process was sharing the experience through a live stream on Meerkat. It was a blast having viewers from all around the world tune in.

BeautyBalm Studio is the place to go to when you want to look and feel fabulous for that special event. Their menu offers a number of services including: make up application, brow waxing, lash extensions, facials and workshops. See the photos below for my BeautyBalm experience.

Scentbird Fragrance Discovery

Scentbird Fragrance Subscription via Cute LA.png

It's hard for me to commit, to a fragrance. When I go to Sephora I smell every fragrance they have. Comparing, re-spraying and getting confused about what I actually liked. Then I go through a phase where I can't even smell anymore cause I've tried so many. It can be overwhelming and hard to commit to shelling out a hundred dollars.

Scentbird is a New York based fragrance subscription service. Scentbird sends a generous sample of one of their 350+ designer fragrances to your door once a month for a small fee. After completing a scent personality quiz Scentbird finds fragrances that best fit your personality. If you don't want their recommendations, choose any perfume you'd like. Scentbird gifted Cute LA a free month, which came with a refillable designer case. It was a fun process and I ended up getting MARC JACOBS' "Daisy" which I love.

A question I always had was, "what do the different concentrations mean on the fragrance labels?"  Here's a quick breakdown, for next time you're shopping for the perfect scent.

  • Parfum or Perfume: Usually the most expensive and potent in terms of concentration. Longest wear on the skin, often lasting the entire day.
  • Eau de Parfum: Less potent than perfume but still a good concentration. Lasts up to 6 hours.
  • Eau de Toilette: This the most popular style of fragrance because it's reasonable. It's a light scent for shorter wear on the skin - about 2-3 hours.
  • Eau de Cologne: The least concentrated, wear on the skin is up to 2 hours.

Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes Review + Before & After

Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes Review

I've never been a fan of wearing false eyelashes. They're heavy and often rip out natural lashes in the process. I gave up on them a long time ago. However, I love the glamorous effect of false ones and often try to emulate with mascaras and boosters.

Happy to say, Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes has helped me achieve this dream. Entrepreneur, Donna Sims, was awesome enough to send me a sample to review for my Cute LA readers. Confident it would convert me into a 3D mascara lover - Hint: IT DID.

Beautiful presentation, I felt I was being initiated into an elite club. The directions are easy, however, I didn't use a base of my favorite mascara first. Instead, I just got right to the action. Here's how I applied Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes: Transplanting Gel on lashes, followed immediately by natural fibers on one eye, repeat on the second eye, let set a moment, then seal with transplanting gel. Repeat the process if you want to build a more dramatic look. It felt like coating lashes with light feathers.

Aside from highlighter in the corners of my eye, I had on NO eye makeup for the BEFORE photo.

Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes are going to be a staple in my arsenal of makeup. A great way to achieve full eyelashes without using fake ones. Well worth it, as I already plan to purchase as a gift for Christmas.

Commodity Premium Fragrances [Fitting Kit]

COMMODITY Premium Fragrances

Working in advertising, I'm obsessed with companies who take pride in their branding and design. Commodity Fragrances, has been a favorite in terms of aesthetics since their kickstarter campaign. From packaging, website, social media, and product they do everything beautifully.

Commodity creates unique perfumes and colognes that you can try at home with their unique fitting kits. Each kit contains ten samples, ranging from Paper to Whiskey and cost $9 dollars. However, as a bonus, you'll receive a promo code applying the $9 as a credit towards a full bottle. So in essence, the fitting kit is FREE. For the Commodity fitting kit, I cut strips of paper, wrote the name of each scent, then sprayed accordingly. My favorite turned out to be the Gold fragrance, described as "Money in it's liquid form." Below you'll find Commodity's illustration describing Gold in more detail. Though, it was a close race between Pinot, Magnolia and Rain.

Cult Cosmetics Nail Polish

Cult Cosmetics Nail Polish via Cute LA

Treated myself to new nail polish from Cult Cosmetics. I've been stalking this California brand for a few reasons: They're an indie line made in Los Angeles, all of their color names are an ode to California and only ONE coat of polish is needed for high pigment color and shine. I bought the dotting tool pen set and nail polish colors: Hollywood Hills, LagunaRunyon and Avalon. Can't wait to try these out!

Cult Cosmetics Nail Polish in colors: Laguna, Avalon, Runyon and Hollywood Hills

Nail Polish Colors L-R: LagunaAvalonRunyon and Hollywood Hills Cult Cosmetics is known for their Blackbox Nail Club, where nail art kits are mailed to you monthly. Though this option looked tempting, I only wanted a few colors for Spring. A true advocate of supporting indie, I joined their mailing list hoping a promo code would drop from the sky. It did, in the form of "buy two, get two free, plus free shipping."

If you're interested in Cult Cosmetics, join their mailing list. They send great promo codes that aren't available on the site. When using these codes and checking out, always read the print carefully so you don't accidentally sign up for the Blackbox Subscription.

What color would you rock for Spring? What's your favorite nail polish line?

Would love to hear in the comments!
