One of my random hobbies is that I enjoy refurbishing old furniture. I've done whole bedrooms. It's a lot of fun and definitely a good break from crazy work schedules. My paint method of choice is spray paint. That's what I enjoy using, if you start to refurbish old furniture you will find what you enjoy using the most.
It's a really easy process and once you do your first piece don't be surprised if it becomes addicting. Plus, it's an excellent way to save money on new furniture.
For my example I refurbished this old dresser, I've had for years.
Sandpaper - One Sheet
5 Cans of Primer
5 Cans of Spray Paint
Step 1: Lay a tarp or plastic on the ground so you don't get paint everywhere. Also, wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.
Step 2: Use clean dry cloth to wipe down the furniture
Step 3: Remove the drawers and unscrew any knobs with a screwdriver.
Step: 4: Sand the piece and drawers (if applicable). You're sanding down to create a smooth finish and remove an knots or stains. This is to also help remove the previous finish on the wood.
Step 5: Use cloth to wipe off sawdust.
Step 6: Coat the entire dresser and drawers with Primer. Let dry for 1-2 hours.
Step 7: Once dry, sand again lightly to smooth out and achieve desired look. (Optional)
Step 8: Use cloth to wipe off sawdust.
Step 9: TIME FOR PAINT! Coat the furniture and drawers with desired color. Let dry for 2-3 hours.
Step 10: Add another coat of paint if you think the piece needs it. Let dry for another 2 hours.
Step 11: That's it! Once dry reattach the knobs add the drawers and admire your new beautiful piece.
I hope that some of you give this a try! Have fun with colors, I know I used black but I redid my whole bedroom like this in mint green.
